His copy of a sketch by Anderson, seen in the Scottish sketchbook, is evidence of Mackintosh’s interest in his predecessor’s Italian experiences and, to some extent, Anderson’s admiration for certain Renaissance buildings may have influenced Mackintosh’s sketching. With the development of photomechanical reproduction, views of Italian architecture, landscapes and city scenes became widely available and from those Mackintosh would have been already familiar with the principal historic buildings of Italy.
