However, direct determinations of the interstellar D/H ratio by means of the k 92 cm hyperfine structure line of atomic deuterium (analog to the ;k21 cm line of atomic hydrogen) by Weinreb (1962) and Cesarsky et al.

Extensive laboratory experiments by Oka and collaborators (1970) support this explanation by demonstrating clearly that the K quantum number is changed in units o f 3h in NH3-rare gas or N H 3 - H 2 collisions.
